What is a REGON number?
REGON is a number in the National Official Business Register kept by Statistics Poland (GUS). It has 9 digits (for an entity) or 14 digits (for a local unit) and is assigned to every registered entity — a company, foundation, association, and also a natural person running a sole proprietorship.
This tool queries the official REGON register (the BIR service) by tax ID (NIP) and returns the REGON number, full official name, legal form and address of the entity — free and with no login.
REGON, KRS or the VAT White List — what's the difference?
These are three separate registers, each useful for something different:
- REGON (GUS) — a statistical register covering all entities, including sole traders who are not in the KRS. Here you can find the official name and address even of a one-person business by its tax ID.
- KRS (Ministry of Justice) — a court register only for companies, foundations and associations. It holds representation, capital and business codes, but does not cover sole traders.
- VAT White List (Ministry of Finance) — VAT status and bank accounts for due-diligence on payments.
